Using GPG (PGP) Encrypted Mail on Mail for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
A quick guide to getting it all set up:
- Download the latest versions of GNU Privacy Guard, GPG Keychain Access and GPGPreferences from here: http://macgpg.sourceforge.net/
- Open the GNU Privacy Guard disk image and run the installer.
- Open the GPG Keychain Access folder from the download and move the application to your Applications folder.
- Open the GPG Preferences disk image and double click the Preferences item to install it.
- Run the GPG Keychain Access application from your applications folder (installed in step 3). Create a private/public key pair.
- Download the latest version of GPGMail for Apple Mail from here- the one you want is in the grey box near the top where it mentions Leopard. Currently, the correct file is: http://www.sente.ch/pub/beta/GPGMail_d53_Leopard.dmg
- Quit the Mail application. Open the GPGMail disk image. Also open a finder window and browser to your home directory, then Library, then Mail, then Bundles. If Bundles doesn't exist, create it.
- In a terminal, execute these commands (note there are two commands, each starts with "defaults" and is in quotes - the rest of the command should be on the same line. Don't enter the quotes):
"defaults write com.apple.mail EnableBundles -bool yes"
"defaults write com.apple.mail BundleCompatibilityVersion -int 3" - Run Mail. Optionally, configure the way GPG works (though the defaults are probably reasonable) by going to Preferences in Mail and choosing the PGP from the list across the top of the Preferences window.
